Russian-Ukraine War Might End? Here's What Trump Said At First Congress Address

Trump announced that Ukraine's President Zelenskyy sent a letter expressing readiness for peace negotiations. He also indicated positive signals from Russia, emphasising the need for diplomatic talks to end the conflict.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he received an important letter from the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and it read that “Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer.” Speaking at the joint session of the Congress, Trump also said that he had “some serious” discussions with Russia and received strong signals from Moscow that it is ready for peace.

Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer...' I appreciate that he sent this letter...simultaneously, we had serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are ready for peace…,” Trump said.

"Wouldn't that be beautiful?" he said.

"It's time to stop this madness. It's time to halt the killing. It's time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars you have to talk to both sides,” Trump further added.

The US president was also expected to further outline his plans for Ukraine and Russia in the speech to Congress but did not reveal any further details on how he plans to end Europe’s biggest conflict since World War Two.

Four sources told Reuters that the Trump administration and Ukraine plan to sign the deal in return for military aid, which Trump has paused. But later on Tuesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News, "There is no signing planned," according to a post on X by a Fox reporter.

Earlier, Zelenskyy pledged to repair relations with the US after what he described as a "regrettable" Oval Office clash with Trump last week. Zelenskiy said that he wanted to make things right and was ready  "any time and in any convenient format" to sign the minerals deal.

The statement of Zelenskyy came a day after Trump halted the military aid to Ukraine, the recent move to upend the US policy, and adopt a more conciliatory stand toward Russia.

"My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts," Zelenskiy said in his statement on X. The statement made no mention of the pause in U.S. military supplies.
