PM Modi Speaks To Ukraine President Zelenskyy, Says There Can’t Be Military Solution To The Situation

Modi Speaks With Zelenskyy: PM Modi emphasised India's emphasis on the safety and security of nuclear sites, including those in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine on Tuesday. The leaders talked about the current situation in Ukraine. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the necessity for conversation and diplomacy as well as a prompt end to hostilities.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's willingness to support any peace initiatives and his steadfast belief that there cannot be a military solution to the situation.

The UN Charter, international law, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every state were all reiterated by PM Modi, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The emphasis India places on the safety and security of nuclear sites, including those in Ukraine, was highlighted by PM Modi. He emphasised that putting nuclear facilities at risk might have devastating effects on the environment and the general public's health.

The two leaders also touched upon important areas of bilateral cooperation, following up on their last meeting in Glasgow in November 2021.

The most recent escalation occurred when Russian President Putin declared Russia will annexe "four additional territories" from Ukraine late last month.

On September 30, It abstained on a draft resolution that denounced Russia's "illegal referenda" and annexation of four Ukrainian areas was presented to the UN Security Council.

India has also been buying Russian oil, which has sparked outrage in the West. In a strong statement in August, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stated that every country will try to get the best deal possible to cushion high oil prices, and India was doing the same.

Prior to that, he told reporters in Washington that India's total oil purchase from Russia in a month is likely to be less than what Europe purchases in an afternoon.
