Pakistan: Zainab Ansari's killer executed in Lahore prison

Pakistan Zainab murder: Six-year-old Zainab was kidnapped from near her relative’s house in Kasur on January 4 and was found dead in a garbage dump after five days.

Lahore: Pakistan on Wednesday hanged a man convicted for the rape and murder of six-year-old Zainab Ansari. Imran Ali, who was arrested after Zainab's body was found in a garbage dump, was executed in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat prison. Zainab's father and other relatives were present. Zainab's father, Amin Ansari told the media after the execution that he was "satisfied". Earlier, an appeal for the public hanging of Ali was dismissed by the Lahore High Court on Tuesday. The girl’s father Amin Ansari had appealed for the public hanging of the murderer Imran Ali. A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) however told him that the appeal was made very late. In October President Arif Alvi rejected a plea for clemency. Zainab's father, Amin Ansari expressed regret that authorities did not televise the hanging. He said, "I have seen his awe-inspiring end with my own eyes. They dropped him on the gallows, and let his body hang for half an hour," he told reporters. The case, the most heinous in a string of similar child murders in the city of Kasur, had sparked outrage and protests in the country. Zainab disappeared on January 4 and her body was found five days later in a rubbish dump. She would have been 7 years and 2 months old if she was alive." Six-year-old Zainab was kidnapped from near her relative’s house in Kasur on January 4 and was found dead in a garbage dump after five days. Imran Ali who was nabbed on January 23, was accused of being involved in at least nine incidents of rape and murder of minors, which he confessed during the probe of Zainab’s murder. He was sentenced to death four times by the anti-terrorism court (ATC) which was hearing the high-profile case sentenced Imran to death four times. As per reports, Ali has been sentenced to 21 counts of death, three life sentences and a cumulative 23 years in jail, in total.
