Several such incidents of Gun Violence have been reported in America recently. There had been concerns over violent racism against the Asian community living in the US.

Washington: A mass shooting took place at a FedEx facility in the US city of Indianapolis wherein multiple people were injured, police said on Friday.

The incident reportedly occurred at the FedEx facility near the Indianapolis International Airport on Thursday night.

News agency AFP quoted Police spokesperson Genae Cook as saying that the officers found an "active shooter incident" at a FedEx facility near the city's international airport. They believe the gunman died by suicide, she informed.

The police officers were called to the location at around 11 p.m. and then on the following day, IMPD Public Information Officer William Young reported that the incident has been deemed a "mass casualty".

As reported by AFP, police informed that multiple people had been shot and injured.

"Indianapolis police say 8 people shot and killed at FedEx facility," AP reported.

A live video showed police tape at the crime scene. Several such incidents have been reported recently. There had been concerns over violent racism against the Asian community living in the US after a man shot and killed eight people, including six women of Asian descent, at spas in Georgia's Atlanta.

As per the data given in the AFP report, gun violence claims the lives of nearly 40,000 people in the United States each year, more than half of them are suicides.

Gun control and regulation is a much-debated issue in the country with people being divided into political lines over it despite the shocking reports of gun violence every now and then.

This month President Joe Biden announced six executive measures he said would help deal with the gun violence crisis. Republicans immediately opposed the measures, with Kevin McCarthy, the party's senior leader in the House of Representatives, warning of "unconstitutional overreach".
