On Monday night, PM Modi had written a congratulatory tweet to Sharif for being elected as the new PM of Pakistan which was hanging in between a political turmoil for the past few months.
PM Modi had asserted in his tweet that India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror.
“Congratulations to H. E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people,” Modi had written.
Sharif was elected as the new Prime Minister after the former PM Imran Khan was ousted by a no-confidence motion against him.
Soon after his election, Sharif addressed the Pakistan National Assembly and said that he would call upon PM Modi to come forward and solve the Kashmir issue.
“I'll advise PM Modi to understand that there is poverty on both sides. I call upon Modi to come and resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue and then let's fight poverty together," he said.
