'Israel Doesn't Want 2-State Solution': Biden Says Netanyahu 'Must Change' His Hardline Govt

President Biden’s remarks come after Israel prime minister Netanyahu reiterated that US is with Israel as Tel Aviv aims to destroy Hamas and recover the hostages held in Gaza.

New Delhi: US President Joe Biden said Israel is starting to lose support around the world due to indiscriminate bombing in Gaza and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must change his hardline government, news agency Reuters reported. Speaking to Democratic donors in Washington, President Biden said PM Netanyahu has a “tough decision to make. This is the most conservative government in Israel’s history.” He also added that the Israeli government “doesn’t want a two-state solution.”

President Biden’s remarks come after Israel prime minister Netanyahu reiterated that US is with Israel as Tel Aviv seeks to destroy Hamas and recover the hostages held in Gaza.

However, PM Netanyahu said that despite being allies, Israel and US differ on what might follow after Israel stops bombing Gaza.

“Gaza will be neither Hamas-stan nor 'Fatah-stan. I would like to clarify my position: I will not allow Israel to repeat the mistake of Oslo,” PM Netanyahu said, reported Reuters. However, he did not clarify which mistake he was referring to.

It is to be noted that the 1993 Oslo Accords established limited Palestinian autonomy in the West Bank and Gaza.

Meanwhile, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Hussein Al-Sheikh, weighing in on the reports that the Israeli Prime Minister had compared the Oslo Accords to Hamas' massacre on October 7, said that both had caused a similar amount of Israeli deaths.

"Benjamin Netanyahu's statement equating the Oslo Accords with what happened on Oct. 7 confirms his war against all Palestinians. We say to Netanyahu that Oslo died under the treads of his tanks, sweeping through our cities, villages, and camps from Jenin to Rafah," the news agency quoted Al-Sheikh as saying.
