Pakistan Says There Is 'No Space For War' With India

A top Pakistan officer said that in a conflict between two rival nuclear powers, such a conflict is actually an "absurdity".

Pakistan's Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Sunday said there is no space for war between India and Pakistan, while claiming that Pakistan never requested a ceasefire.

In a press briefing held on Sunday, he highlighted the high stakes of escalation between two nuclear-armed neighbours and called the idea of war between India and Pakistan "inconceivable" and "sheer stupidity", as per The Express Tribune.

"In reality, there is no space for war between India and Pakistan, and if anyone wants to carve out this space for war, he is actually carving out the space for mutual annihilation," Lt General Chaudhry said.

He further added that in a conflict between two rival nuclear powers, such a conflict is actually an "absurdity". "In the case of India and Pakistan, such a conflict can lead to peril of more than 1.6 billion people," he added.

'Pakistan Acted With Maturity'

Speaking on Pakistan’s 'Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos' against India, Chaudhry said Pakistan acted with strategic maturity throughout the conflict. 

"This is why you saw how in this conflict Pakistan acted in a very mature manner and through conventional forces, we maintained escalation control," he said, as per The Express Tribune. "Through conventional forces, we gave them a two-notch up response, while also ensuring that the Pakistan forces employed on the counterterrorism operations...no pull is also exerted on them," he added.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to destroy nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. This was followed by drone attacks by Pakistan in border districts, including Jammu, Amritsar, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Ferozpur and Kutch.

Both nations agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday, but Pakistan violated the agreement just hours after announcing it. On Sunday, the Indian military sent a "hotline message" to Pakistan about violations of a ceasefire agreed this week and informed it of New Delhi's intent to respond if it was repeated.
