American University under attack in Kabul

Kabul: The American University of Afghanistan in Kabul city came under attack on Wednesday evening with security forces exchanging gunfire with the attackers. Dozens of students and staff are believed to be trapped inside the university building in Darul Aman Road, reports the Tolo News. Reports suggest that there was an initial explosion followed by gunfire. While few students have managed to escape many are still trapped inside. According to reports, a number of gunmen had entered the building after blowing open an entry point into the heavily guarded compound. So far, there is no official on the number of casualties but reports suggest that casualties have occurred. The incident comes weeks after two of the university's professors were kidnapped. While one was an American and the other was an Australian.
