75 injured as 5.9-magnitude quake jolts Iran's Gilangharb city

As per the country’s seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake that rocked the Western part of the country was detected to be at 34.16 degrees north latitude and 45.66 degrees east longitude with a depth of 10 km.

New Delhi: At least 75 people have been reported injured in Iran, after an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 on Richter scale jolted the Gilangharb city in the country’s Kermanshah province, reports said.  Reports said that as many as 15 aftershocks have hit the region so far. The magnitude of the tremors varied from 3 to 4.8 on Richter scale. As per the country’s seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake that rocked the Western part of the country was detected to be at 34.16 degrees north latitude and 45.66 degrees east longitude with a depth of 10 km. As per Tasnim news agency reports, people have sustained injuries in the bid to escape to the outdoors in panic. It reported that assessment teams of Iran’s Red Crescent Society have been dispatched to the site of earthquake. As per the reports, residential building and cattle farms suffered damages and roads were blocked by rock fall. Schools have reportedly been ordered to remain closed on Monday, The quake also affected the quality of drinking water in Gilangharb, news agency IANS reported assuring that the local people will be provided sufficient high-quality drinking water.
