US: 7.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Alaska, Triggers Tsunami Warning

A Tsunami warning was triggered in Alaska, United State after a 7.5 earthquake hit the peninsula on Monday afternoon.

New Delhi: After a 7.5 earthquake hit Alaska, United States a tsunami warning was triggered in the affected area. According to media reports, the earthquake struck the peninsula on Monday afternoon. A report by AP, said that the earthquake struck in the North Pacific Ocean just before 1 PM. It was centered about 67 miles (118 kilometers) southeast of Sand Point and a depth of 19 miles (30 kilometers). The National Tsunami Warning Center prompted a tsunami warning after reports of wave levels that reached almost 2 feet (0.61 meters). Emergency sirens were activated in the affected area. The report also said that the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, said that the warning was in effect for roughly 950 miles (1,529 kilometers), from 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Homer to Unimak Pass, about 80 miles (129 km) northeast of Unalaska. This comes just days before the US presidential elections which are scheduled on 3 November. During a recent campaign event, US President Donald Trump said that he may have to leave the country if he loses to his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the upcoming US presidential election. The statement comes soon after reports of Donald Trump trailing behind Joe Biden in key states.
