Iraqi PM Mustafa Al-Kadhimi Survives Drone Attack, 10 Guards Injured

New Delhi: At least 10 guards were injured after a bomb-laden drone attacked Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi’s residence early on Sunday, TASS citing local media reported.
The building in Iraqi capital Baghdad’s heavily guarded green zone was damaged in the attack, according to the Al Hadath television report, ANI reported.

The Al Arabiya TV channel earlier in the day reported that the Prime Minister was hospitalised with minor injuries after his residence was attacked by a bomb-laden unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
TASS further reported that the Prime Minister was taken to a safe place.
The security measures, as per the publication, have been stepped up at all entrances to the green zone, where the foreign embassies and government buildings are located, post the attack.
The situation in the area is “stable and under control”, Al Hadath quoted a statement by the Iraqi military as saying.
The United States has strongly condemned the attack and offered all assistance to Iraq with the investigation into the matter.
“We are relieved to learn the Prime Minister was unharmed,” US Department of State spokesperson Ned Price said in a statement.

“This apparent act of terrorism, which we strongly condemn, was directed at the heart of the Iraqi state,” he added.
Price further said the US is in close touch with the Iraqi security forces.
India Condemns Assassination Attempt
India on Sunday strongly condemned the assassination attempt on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, and said terrorism and violence have no place in any civilised society.
"We strongly condemn the assassination attempt by drone attack today morning on the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, as quoted by PTI.
"Terrorism and violence have no place in any civilised society. They cannot be allowed to undermine peace and stability in Iraq," he added.
"We express our concerns for the casualties caused by the attack and reiterate our support for the democratic process in Iraq," Bagchi said, responding to media queries on the assassination attempt.
