PM Modi Slams Mamata Over Cooch Behar Audio Leak, Says 'TMC Playing Politics With Dead Bodies'

Addressing a public meeting in Asansol on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has an old habit of doing politics with dead bodies.

A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's audio clip -- in which she is allegedly heard proposing a rally with Cooch Behar victims' dead bodies-- was released, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused her of "politicising" the Cooch Behar firing incident in which five people lost lives at Sitalkuchi on April 10.

"You might have listened to an audiotape over what happened in Cooch Behar. After the death of five people, Didi is doing politics. In this audiotape, Cooch Behar TMC leader is being told to hold a rally with the bodies of the 5 deceased. Didi, how far will you go for vote bank? The truth is that Didi thought of her political benefit through those deaths. Doing politics on corpses is an old habit of Didi," PM said.

His remarks came after purported audio clip surfaced wherein, Mamata in conversation with TMC Sitalkuchi candidate Partha Pratim Ray, allegedly proposed a rally with the bodies of Cooch Behar firing victims.

Five people were killed in firing by security forces on April 10 after violence broke out at a polling booth at Sitakulchi in Cooch Behar district when voting was going on for the fourth phase of the Bengal assembly election.

Meanwhile, Banerjee on Saturday alleged that her phone is being tapped and said she will order a CID probe into it. "I will order a CID probe into the issue. I will not spare anyone involved in such snooping activities. I have already come to know who is behind this," she said. the TMC had described the audio clip as "bogus".
