Wayanad: Second Resident Trampled To Death By Wild Elephant In A Week, Oppn Stages Protest

Initially, the victim Paul was treated at a local hospital and later transferred to Kozhikode, where he passed away.

Six days after a man was fatally trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kerala's Wayanad, a temporary eco-tourism worker succumbed to injuries from an elephant attack at Kozhikode Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning.

The victim, identified as Paul, was en route to work at the Kuruva Island eco-tourism project when he encountered a wild elephant, resulting in a fatal attack, as per the residents.

Initially, Paul was treated at a local hospital and later transferred to Kozhikode, where he passed away.

According to ANI, Workers of opposition political parties along with locals in Pakkam hold a protest against the Kerala government over the incident of the death of a man in a recent elephant attack in the Wayanad district

“We will not perform the last rites of Paul until the Kerala government announces a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family of the deceased,” said an angry local resident, as per the report.

Paul is survived by his wife, a young daughter, and two ailing sisters.

This incident follows a similar death on January 30 when a local resident named Laxmanan was also killed by a wild elephant in the same district. The recent attack occurred just 4 km away from where Ajeesh, a tractor driver, was previously trampled to death by a tusker prompting locals to express their growing frustration to authorities.

Meanwhile, in Kannur, a wild elephant attacked a Maoist group, who managed to survive and escape. However, a local resident sustained injuries in the incident. Police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
