Was Advised To Keep Quiet If I Wanted President's Post, Says Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik
Malik has also accused the central government of not fulfilling the promises made to the farmers after the repeal of three agricultural laws.
New Delhi: Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday has hit out at the Modi government. Taking a jibe at PM Modi, Malik said that the BJP government had lured him to the post of President and said that if you remain silent, you will be made the President.
"Some of my friends had advised me that I could become the President or Vice President so I should keep quiet. But, I told them I don't care about these positions," Malik said as quoted by news agency PTI.
Malik has also accused the central government of not fulfilling the promises made to the farmers after the repeal of three agricultural laws. He said that my term as governor will end in the next six to seven months. After that I will start an outreach campaign to unite all the farmers of North India.
“I will soon tour the northern states to unite the farmers and urge them to form their own government in Delhi. Though the PM accepted some of their demands, many issues remain unaddressed,” said Malik on Sunday as quoted by news agency ANI.

“This is the time to change the government. Get united and form your own government,” he added.
Malik, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has been critical of agricultural reforms. In a scathing attack on the government, Malik said, “We had lost more than 700 farmers and the Prime Minister, who used to write a letter on the death of a bitch, did not even speak a single word to condole their death”.
Meghalaya Governor also alleged mala fide intentions behind the passage of three farm laws.
"The Union Government has failed to give legal guarantee on the MSP because the Prime Minister’s friend, who had constructed a godown on 50 acres of land in Panipat before the three farm laws were brought, want to purchase wheat at lower prices and sell the same at higher prices and this is a battle between farmers and government," he said.
Malik was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 when the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was revoked and it was split into two Union Territories.
