Not only this, the Tiago has also been among the best sellers in its class which comprises of the Maruti Celerio and the Datsun GO. So, let’s compare it with the Celerio, which leads sales in the segment, and find out which one of two hatchbacks you should go for.

Verdict: We do not recommend cars without ABS and dual front airbags, features that we consider bare minimum. As none of the cars here offer ABS, we will recommend you to extend your budget and go for the next variant.

What the Celerio Offers over the Tiago: Dual front airbags, ABS and seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters.

Verdict: Despite the Tiago being better equipped, the Celerio is our pick simply because it gets basic safety features like dual front airbags and ABS.

What Celerio Offers over the Tiago: Dual front airbags, ABS, seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, day/night IRVM and 60:40 split rear seats.

Verdict: The Tiago gets a lot more features than the Celerio but it lags behind the Maruti when it comes to safety. So, the Celerio will be our pick here as it gets basic safety features such as dual front airbags and ABS, unlike the Tiago.

Tiago XT(O) vs Celerio Zxi

What the Tiago offers over the Celerio: EBD, corner stability control, height adjustable driver seat, adjustable headrest for front seats, rear parking sensors, Harman music system, cooled glovebox and multiple driving modes.

What the Celerio Offers over the Tiago: None

Verdict: The Tiago is certainly the better equipped car here. It not only packs more features but  is more affordable as well. And hence, it is the recommended pick here.

Variants with automatic transmission: Apart from the standard 5-speed MT, both the petrol hatchbacks are available with an option of AMT as well.

Tiago XTA vs Celerio Vxi AMT

Verdict: Since none of the cars are equipped with basic safety features, we will recommend you to extend your budget and go for the Celerio Vxi AMT (O).

Verdict: For a premium of Rs 12,000 over the Tiago XTA, the Celerio Vxi AMT (O) offers basic safety features such dual front airbags and ABS. The Celerio Vxi AMT (O) does miss out on some comfort features that the Tiago XTA offers, but safety takes the front seat here.

Tiago XZA vs Celerio ZXI AMT (O):

Verdict: The Tiago certainly is the better equipped car here. And the premium of Rs 20,000 it commands over the Celerio is justified in our opinion. So, we will recommend you to go for the Tiago here.

Maruti Celerio CNG: The Celerio is also available with a CNG kit. It is available in two variants: Vxi and Vxi (O), priced at Rs 5.14 lakh and Rs 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.

Maruti Celerio Tour H2: Maruti is also offering a taxi-specific variant of the Celerio, priced at Rs 4.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Celerio Tour H2 is based on the Lxi(O) variant, which means it gets basic safety features such as dual front airbags and ABS. Apart from this, since it’s made for commercial purposes, it comes fitted with a speed governor (set at 80kmph) to comply with Indian government’s revised rules which require all taxis to be fitted with this device, in the interest of road safety. Tiago Diesel: Unlike the Celerio, the Tiago is available with a diesel engine also. The diesel engine is a 1.05-litre three cylinder unit that makes 70PS/140Nm, coupled with a 5-speed MT. The Tiago diesel is available in nine variants which are priced from Rs 4.16 lakh to Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
