Tata Altroz to be offered with three engine options

While the diesel Altroz will be available with a single engine only, the petrol hatchback will come with two engines to choose from

Tata Motors debuted its Baleno rival, the Altroz, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. At the event, the premium hatchback was showcased with the Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that was said to develop 102PS and 140Nm, 8PS/30Nm less than what this engine makes in the Nexon. Moreover, the carmaker also confirmed that along with the above-mentioned petrol engine, the Altroz will also be available with the naturally aspirated variant of the 1.2-litre petrol unit and a diesel engine option. The 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol for the Altroz will be borrowed from the Tiago and Tigor. In the Tiago twins this engine makes 85PS of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque. While Tata is likely to reserve the more powerful petrol engine for the limited variant, the 85PS petrol engine from the Tiago should be available across all variants. Tata Altroz to be offered with three engine options The diesel Altroz, on the other hand, is expected to get a detuned version of the Nexon’s 1.5-litre unit that makes 110PS and 260Nm. As far performance is concerned, the detuning should not adversely affect the performance of the Altroz since the hatchback is expected to be substantially lighter than the Nexon thanks to the new ALFA ARC platform. Where the Nexon weighs up to 1,250kg, the Altroz is expected to be a sub-1 tonne offering like the Maruti Baleno. Tata Altroz to be offered with three engine options As far as transmission options are concerned, Tata is expected offer the option of AMT along with manual transmission with both petrol and diesel engines. Tata Altroz to be offered with three engine options Tata will also launch the all-electric Altroz, which was also showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, in India some time in 2020.  The Altroz EV is expected to have a range of upto 300km on a single charge and will be equipped with fast charging that can juice up its battery upto 80 per cent in 60 minutes. When launched, the conventionally powered Altroz will take on the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the VW Polo.  The Altroz EV, on the other hand, will be the first electric premium hatchback in the country, when launched.
