These States See Various Forms Of Covid-Related Restrictions As Cases Continue To Surge

Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu extended Covid related restrictions as cases continue to rise.

Maharashtra: For the fifth consecutive day, Maharashtra has seen asteady spike in Covid-19 cases, now the the Hingoli district administration on Sunday imposed a weeklong lockdown till March 7th 2021. In order to curb the spread of the virus, Hingoli Collector Ruchesh Jayvanshi in an order issued on Saturday evening said the curfew will come into force from 7 am on Monday and continue till March 7th midnight.

Tamil Nadu has extended its restrictions in order to stop the rising number of Covid cases until March 31st 2021, on Sunday the state government also asked all district administrations to enforce strict Covid-19 appropriate behaviour. “The district administration shall take all necessary measures to promote COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and ensure the wearing of face masks, hand hygiene and social distancing,” the notification said according to HT.

On Sunday, the Union Health Ministry said that 86.37 per cent of the new cases in the country are from Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

Maharastra saw 8,293 new cases have been in the state on Sunday, bringing the active cases to 77,008, 62 people died yesterday bringing the number of deaths to 52,154 according to official data. Tamil Nadu on Sunday reported 479 new Covid-19 cases and three new fatalities taking the tally to 8.51 lakh cases and 12,496 deaths, PTI reported. At the same time, Kerala which has the second highest number of cases, reports 50803 active cases after about 876 news cases and 18 deaths bringing the total to 4182 according to MOHFW website. 

In Hingoli, essentials services like milk shops and medical stores are allowed to function in a curfew period, meanwhile, banks are only open for adminstrative work. Offices, industrial and commercial establishments will continue with staggered working hours and those flouting Covid guidelines have been asked to be punished. 

On Monday, PM Modi took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as the second phase of immunization drive begins. PM Modi got himself vaccinated at Delhi’s premier All India Institutes of Medical Sciences. PM Modi took the jab of Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN.
