Porsche is all set to launch the plug-in hybrid version of its flagship SUV, the 2018 Cayenne, in India, by September 2018. It will be the second electrified car from the Stuttgart-based carmaker to launch in India after the Panamera E-Hybrid.

The new Cayenne E-Hybrid is powered by a 340PS 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that is supplemented by a 100kW electric motor taking the total power output to 462PS. The hybrid SUV has a peak torque of 700Nm, which is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Porsche claims that the 2018 Cayenne E-Hybrid can go from 0-100kmph in 5 seconds and has a top speed of 253kmph. On electricity alone, the SUV has a range of 44km and a top speed of 135kmph.

The battery on board the new Cayenne E-Hybrid is a 14.1kWh unit. This battery can be fully charged in 7.8 hours via a 10A/230V connection. However, the time can be reduced to 2.3 hours thanks to the optional 7.2kW onboard charger, which requires a 32A/230V power supply. The charging process can be managed and monitored via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and remotely using the Porsche Connect app.

Porsche says that the hybrid tech used on the Cayenne is from the 918 Spyder and it can be used for an additional performance boost. Depending on the requirements, the driver can choose between two modes: Sport and Sport Plus. In the Sport Plus mode, all of the 700Nm of torque is made available instantly, which is not the case in the Sport mode.

Other features offered on the Cayenne E-Hybrid include Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), electric Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC)(optional), smart digital co-pilot, Porsche InnoDrive with adaptive cruise control, massage seats, a heated windscreen, independent heating with remote operation, 22-inch alloy wheels and a Porsche first, coloured heads-up display.

The 2018 Cayenne E-Hybrid, when launched, will not have any direct competition in the market. The other plug-in hybrid SUV available in India is the Volvo XC90 T8 Excellence, which sits a segment below the Porsche and is priced at Rs 1.31 crore (ex-showroom pan-India). The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, on the other hand, is expected to be priced north of Rs 2 crore.
