PM Modi Recalls Days As RSS Pracharak During Emergency, Hails HD Deve Gowda As 'Stalwart' Of Protests

BlueKraft Digital Foundation releases 'The Emergency Diaries', a new book detailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s early political resistance during the Emergency.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on his formative years during the 1975 Emergency through a new book titled The Emergency Diaries – Years That Forged a Leader, launched by BlueKraft Digital Foundation. Taking to social media, the Prime Minister described the period as a “learning experience” and honoured former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda as a “stalwart of the anti-Emergency movement.”

The book, which highlights Modi’s early political journey as a young RSS Pracharak, explores his contributions to resisting the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The narrative draws heavily from first-hand accounts of those who worked with him at the time, and features rare archival materials to build what the publishers call a “first-of-its-kind” scholarly resource on Modi’s formative years. The foreword has been penned by Deve Gowda himself.

Narendra Modi's Tweet

In a tweet reposting the announcement, PM Modi wrote: “When the Emergency was imposed, I was a young RSS Pracharak. The anti-Emergency movement was a learning experience for me. It reaffirmed the vitality of preserving our democratic framework. At the same time, I got to learn so much from people across the political spectrum. I am glad that BlueKraft Digital Foundation has compiled some of those experiences in the form of a book, whose foreword has been penned by Shri HD Deve Gowda Ji, himself a stalwart of the anti-Emergency movement.”

According to BlueKraft, The Emergency Diaries is “a tribute to the grit and resolve of those who refused to be silenced” and “offers a rare glimpse into the early trials that forged one of the most transformative leaders of our time.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to launch the book, further underlining its political significance.
