PM Modi Greece Visit Highlights: Hello and welcome to the Live Blog on PM Narendra Modi's visit to Greece after his South Africa tour where he attended the 15th BRICS Summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a one-day visit to Greece on Friday, August 25 at the invitation of Greece PM Kyriakos Mitsotaki. PM Modi arrived in South Africa on Tuesday for the first in-person BRICS Summit after three consecutive years of virtual meetings because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, he attended BRICS Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue on his third day of the visit to South Africa’s Johannesburg and also held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"PM @narendramodi wraps up a fruitful visit to South Africa that launched a new chapter in the BRICS journey. PM now emplanes for Greece for engagements with an important Mediterranean partner," Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi posted on X )formerly Twitter)

"My visit to South Africa was a very productive one. The BRICS Summit was fruitful and historic as we welcomed new countries to this forum. We will keep working together for global good. My gratitude to President @CyrilRamaphosa, the people and Government of South Africa for their hospitality," the Prime Minister posted on X.

On Wednesday, the prime minister attended the plenary session of the 15th BRICS Summit along with leaders of member nations including Brazil, Russia, China, and host South Africa.

Addressing the opening plenary session of the 15th BRICS Summit, Modi praised its journey over the last two decades. He emphasised accomplishments such as the establishment of the New Development Bank, assistance to countries in the Global South, and the creation of financial safety nets through contingency reserves.

He also stressed on the role of technology in shaping BRICS societies' future readiness, calling for initiatives such as youth summits, BRICS games, and think tank councils to strengthen people-to-people connections. 

PM outlined a comprehensive 5-point agenda to strengthen relationships between member nations. His proposals cover diverse fields from space exploration to conservation and cooperation in various sectors.

PM Modi Says Athens Visit Bolsters India-Greece Friendship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hails his Greece visit as a significant step in strengthening India-Greece ties, particularly in terms of people-to-people connections.

The PM posted: "This Greece visit is a very special one. It will add great momentum to India-Greece friendship, particularly people-to-people linkages. I also had a very memorable interaction with the dynamic Indian community here. Gratitude to PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Government and people of Greece."
