PM Modi Receives Heartfelt Traditional Welcome In Namibia, Beats Tribal Drums On Landmark Visit — WATCH

PM Modi receives a grand traditional welcome in Namibia, plays local drums in Windhoek on his first visit, strengthening India-Namibia ties and boosting strategic cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with vibrant traditional ceremonies as he touched down in Windhoek on Wednesday, marking his first-ever visit to Namibia. The warm reception came at the invitation of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as Modi wrapped up the final leg of his five-nation tour across South America and Africa.

The Warm Welcome Of PM Modi

The Indian leader, who arrived directly from Brazil after attending the BRICS Summit, stepped into the heart of southwestern Africa with a symbolic gesture — trying his hand at the Namibian traditional drums, a moment that resonated with both cultures and captivated onlookers at the airport.

"Landed in Windhoek a short while ago. Namibia is a valued and trusted African partner with whom we seek to boost bilateral cooperation. Looking forward to meeting President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressing the Namibian Parliament today.," PM Modi posted on X, along with images capturing his arrival and cultural engagement.

The Historic Visit

This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Namibia in nearly three decades. Modi’s arrival signifies a renewed chapter in Indo-Namibian relations, one rooted in historical solidarity and now expanding into economic collaboration. India was among the first nations to support Namibia’s independence movement in the mid-20th century, laying the foundation for what has become a mutually respectful and strategic partnership.

India’s High Commissioner to Namibia, Rahul Shrivastava, emphasised the growing potential between the two nations. He noted that discussions during the visit would focus on critical areas such as trade, investment, and energy cooperation.
