Patiala: Man Shoots Dead Stray Dog; Arrested After Video Goes Viral

The police, which is further investigating the matter, will get the post-mortem conducted on Thursday morning at the veterinary hospital in Samana. The stray dog’s body has been recovered and will be kept in ice overnight.

Patiala: A man identified as Taranjot Singh Baath of Khaspur village in Punjab’s Patiala district has been arrested for killing a stray dog with a gun in Patran. 

According to reports, the whole purpose behind the heinous incident was to show how powerful humans are and a video was then recorded.

The police, which is further investigating the matter, will get the post-mortem conducted on Thursday morning at the veterinary hospital in Samana. The stray dog’s body has been recovered and will be kept in ice overnight.

The FIR was registered against the accused the accused under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. He has also been slapped with Section 5 and 27 of the Arms Act 1959. Peopel For Animals (PFA), a non-profit organisation gave details of the man's arrest on its Facebook page. 

The matter came to light after the video went viral on social media showing the accused shooting a sleeping street dog with a .12 bore gun.

Meanwhile, several people on social media, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India activists, condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the accused.
