'Night Curfew In Entire Punjab Till April 30': What's Shut & Open

In an effort to control the spread of the deadly COVID-19, the Punjab government has decided to impose night curfew across the entire State till month end. It has also put a ban on political gatherings in Punjab. 

Amid rising cases of Coronavirus in the state, Punjab Government has resorted to strict measures and decided to impose night curfew across the entire State till month end. As per the announcement, night curfew will be in place from 9 PM - 5 AM across Punjab till April 30.

In an effort to control the spread of the deadly COVID-19, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh-led Congress government has also put a ban on political gatherings in Punjab. Only essential services will be allowed to function during this time period.

Check What's Shut & Open

  • Only essential services will be allowed to function during night curfew
  • No gatherings will be allowed and all restaurants have to be closed down by 10 p.m. Parties and other non-essential activities will not be permitted.
  • Moreover, a maximum limit been put on gatherings at funerals, weddings and cremations. Only 50 people will be allowed to attend indoor functions while 100 can gather in outdoors functions.
  • It is must for the employees working in government offices to wear a face mask. 
  • The government has also put a ban on political gatherings in Punjab. Case will be lodged against party leaders for holding any rally during the period. 
  • Medical colleges and nursing institutes will remain open while rest of the schools and educational institutions shall remain shut till April 30. 
  • Some respite for shop owners in Malls, as the Chief Minister allowed entry of 10 people per shop at any given time. 200 people will be allowed in a Mall with 20 shops at any given time. 

The restrictions have come at the time when Punjab reported 2,924 new cases on Tuesday, pushing infection tally to 2,57,05. 

According to the state Health Department, as many as 62 peple died from coronavirus in Punjab, taking the toll to 7,216. According to the bulletin, the active cases of coronavirus rose to 25,913 while 2,350 patients recuperated, taking the number of recoveries to 2.24 lakh. 

The central government on Tuesday said that the intensity of the coronavirus pandemic has increased in India. As per the union health ministry, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh are the cause of maximum concern.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in a press conference said that 80 per cent of cases in Punjab are due to the UK variant of COVID19. This has been confirmed by genome sequencing. "The increase in cases is event-driven like large weddings, local body elections, farmer protest, etc could have a role in it," minister added.
