Gujarat Corona Guidelines: Night Curfew To Be Imposed In 20 Cities From Wednesday; Check Other Covid Curbs

The Chief Minister, who issued the order in this regard, said the government offices will remain closed on Saturday till April 30. He further said that only up to 100 people would be allowed at weddings, adding grand events have been postponed until April 30.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani-led government, following the Gujarat High Court’s instructions, decided to impose night curfew in 20 cities of the state between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Wednesday following a spike in Covid-19 cases.

The Chief Minister, who issued the order in this regard, said the government offices will remain closed on Saturdays till April 30. He further said that only up to 100 people would be allowed at weddings, adding grand events have been postponed until April 30.

The state government has, however, not imposed lockdown or day curfew in any area across Gujarat. The state government has also decided to conduct polls for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation as per the Election Commission’s guidelines.

This came as the Gujarat High Court earlier in the day suggested the state government to impose lockdown for three to four days to curb rising cases of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The High Court asked the state government to take “urgent and serious steps” to curb the spread of the virus while pointing out the situation is almost reaching a point where lockdown appears necessary. The High Court put forth its views after summoning the government’s top law officers.

Earlier on Monday, Gujarat breached the 3,000 mark of new Covid-19 cases for the first time. The state government had earlier announced a night curfew in the four cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. till April 15.
