Next-gen Hyundai Creta To Be Launched In 2020; To Borrow Seltos’ Powertrains

The next-gen Hyundai Creta will be based on the ix25 which was revealed earlier this year in China.

It was previously confirmed that the 2020 Hyundai Creta will borrow the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. Hyundai now says that the upcoming Creta will also get the Seltos’ BS6-compliant 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The current BS4-compliant engines on offer, including the 1.6-litre petrol engine which makes 123PS of power, will be discontinued. The Seltos’ 1.4-litre T-GDi engine can be had with a choice of either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and produces 140PS of power. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre petrol engine makes 115PS. The next-gen Creta is also likely to get an ‘N-Line’ variant which will be offered with the Seltos’ 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. The next-gen Creta will be based on the same platform as the Seltos. The specifications of the China-spec ix25 suggest that the new Creta will be bigger than the current model, but marginally smaller than the Seltos. Next-gen Hyundai Creta To Be Launched In 2020; To Borrow Seltos’ Powertrains The spy-shots of the next-gen Creta’s interior suggest a larger, vertical touchscreen infotainment system like the MG Hector. However, it is unclear if the India-spec Creta will get it too. The 2020 Creta will be well equipped with Hyundai BlueLink connected car features like the Venue, a 360-degree view camera, a head-up display, panoramic sunroof, multiple airbags, and more. The current-gen Hyundai Creta is priced between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15.65 lakh, whereas the Kia Seltos’s introductory prices range from Rs 9.69 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Upon launch next year, the next-gen Creta will have a similar price tag to the Seltos and will continue to take on the likes of its Kia sibling as well as the Nissan Kicks and Duster, the Tata Harrier as well as the MG Hector.
