Ward Boy Held For Molesting A Corona Positive Pregnant Woman In Kalyan's Covid Centre

A Covid positive pregnant woman was molested in Covid Centre in Kalyan near Mumbai when she was in ICU waiting for her treatment.

A ward boy of Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation-run COVID care centre has been arrested by the Mumbai Police on Tuesday for allegedly molesting a pregnant woman inside the ICU.

According to reports, the horrific incident took place in the early hours on Monday when the victim was asleep in the Intensive Care Unit.  

The ward boy, identified as Shrikant Mohite (34), entered the room where the victim was resting and molested her, but was caught by others at the centre after she raised an alarm.

The case was registered at Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan.  He has been charged under section 354 (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures), he added.

According to reports, Mohite has confessed to the crime and is being questioned for other cases similar to the crime.

After registering the case, the police released a statement about the incident. 

"In a shocking incident, a female Covid 19 positive patient had arrived at KDMC Kalyan Covid Centre to admit herself for treatment. Here, she alleges that a ward boy molested her while she awaited her treatment. After filing a complaint, an FIR has been registered and the accused have been arrested," the statement read.

It added that the victim informed her husband about the incident via telephone call and cried out for help following which the ward boy fled the scene, as quoted by ANI. 

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against a BMC official at Mumbai's Shivaji Park Police Sation.
