MG Motor To Launch 4 More SUVs After Hector In Next 2 Years

While one of the cars will be an electric SUV, a 7-seater variant of the Hector is also in the works

The launch of the MG Hector is only a month away and the British carmaker, which is owned by Chinese car conglomerate SAIC Motor Corp, has revealed its India plans for the next two years. The brand plans to introduce four more SUVs in that time period, once the Hector is launched.

The first product after the Hector will be an electric SUV, the eZS. It will initially be a CBU import, but MG plans to manufacture the electric SUV at its plant in Halol, when sales pick up in the future. The eZS will be similar in size to the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. It is expected to get a range of more than 300km. If MG prices it under Rs 15 lakh, it will also benefit from the FAME II policy, however there is no confirmation regarding that as of now.

MG is also working on a 7-seater variant of the Hector. It will be launched sometime in early 2020. Once launched, it will take on the upcoming 7-seater Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500.

The other two SUVs that are a bit of a surprise. Both will be based on different platforms and one of them is expected to be a Creta rival. It could even be a sub-4 metre offering that would take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Hyundai Venue.

Last, but not the least, a Fortuner rival is also on the cards. It could be based on the Motion X concept that was shown in Beijing last year.
