MG Hector Launched In India At Rs 12.18 Lakh

The Hector takes on the likes of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the Hyundai Creta

After unveiling it last month, MG has launched the Hector SUV in India. Available in four variants: Style, Super, Smart and Sharp, the midsize SUV is priced from Rs 12.18 lakh to Rs 16.59 lakh (introductory prices, ex-showroom India). MG is offering the Hector with both petrol and diesel engine options. The Hector petrol is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that makes 143PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque. The diesel SUV, on the other hand, gets a 2.0-litre unit producing 170PS and 350Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed MT as standard. However, the petrol is available with a 6-speed DCT as well. In addition to this, MG is also offering a 48V mild-hybrid system with the petrol Hector, but it is available with manual transmission variants only. On the features front, the MG gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, and hill-hold control as standard. While the higher variants get additional equipment including side and curtain airbags, 360 degree camera panoramic sunroof, reclinable second row of seats and a powered tailgate. Along with these, the Hector also comes with segment-first connected-car tech courtesy of the onboard eSim. It allows the user to control car functions like the AC, push-button start and the sunroof remotely by a mobile app. It also offers voice commands via the 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It's not only the features that make the Hector standout from its rivals. The midsize SUV comes a 5 year/unlimited km warranty with RSA as standard. Also on offer are various protection plans for the Hector for as low as Rs 8,000. For people who like to switch cars more often, MG, in collaboration with Gaadi store by CarDekho, is also offering a three-year assured buyback plan with the Hector. Under this, customers will have the option of reselling the car at 60 per cent of the initial value after three years. Priced from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 16.59 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India), the Hector not only competes with the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson, but also takes on smaller SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks.
