The woman who reported him to police started to suspect something was amiss when he didn't take her to his house or introduce her to his family despite multiple requests. Accused has been arrested.
A man has been arrested in Odisha for allegedly duping a woman into marriage by claiming to be a police inspector. As his con fell apart, it was revealed that the accused, Subash Chandra Kanhar, had been married twice before.
According to an India Today report, Kanhar first struck up a friendship with the woman by sending her a request on Facebook, which she accepted. He told her he was a police inspector in Rourkela, identifying himself as Manoj Kumar Mishra, and the two began talking.
Kalinga TV reported that Kanhar told the woman he was a resident of Khordha, and would send her photos with different police uniforms and fake identity cards. The two eventually got married and Kanhar rented a house.
The woman reportedly started to suspect something was amiss when he didn't take her to his house or introduce her to his family despite multiple requests. He would reportedly come up with different excuses to avoid taking her to his house, it was reported.
As she got suspicious, the woman reportedly looked up the registration number and other details of the Maruti Swift Dzire car he used, reported Kalinga TV. This revealed his original home address in Odisha's Bhadrak, as well as his name.
With all of this information, she went to the police and filed a complaint. Subsequently, the man was arrested, India Today reported. While investigating the matter, the police found out that Kanhar was aged 55 years, and had a 25-year-old son. They also discovered that he had duped the two women he married before.
The police said Kanhar had used a false identity to exploit the complainant both financially and for personal gratification. According to the India Today report, Kanhar worked at a fabrication unit and was not a police official as per police records.
Further details on the investigation are awaited.
