Green Signal To Maharashtra's Demand of 20 Companies Of Central Forces For Eid
Mumbai CM Anil Deshmukh has asked the Centre to deploy these forces as challenging work hours have left Mumbai Police stretched and the up coming Ramazan will require more people to maintain the law and order.
Mumbai, May 13: In a first, Maharasthra will be deploying 20 companies of central forces in the city, to maintain law and order amid Covid-19 outbreak which has crippled the city as people continue to face the wrath of the pandemic. The state has got a green signal from the central government to deploy Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the state.
With several police personnel in the state testing Covid-19 positive, long and challenging work hours are leaving Maharashtra police stretched.
As the country will celebrate Ramzan Eid on May 25th, the state will need extra hands to help maintain law and order for which it had requested 20 companies of CAPF, according to the tweet by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday.
The home minister tweeted about getting the green signal from the central government in deploying the companies to take care of the law and order situation in the state.
He has said that the state police are already stretched because of the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak which has resulted in 921 deaths so far.
In Maharasthra Police almost 1,008 police personnel are already affected by Coronavirus. The central government will ask the forces to prepare the companies and send the companies to the state which is facing an extraordinary situation because of Covid-19.
The state’s tally on Tuesday reached 24,427 as 1,026 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. It has reported 53 more deaths, taking its total death tally to 921, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
Around 46 new cases were reported in Dharavi, Asia's largest slum. The case count in the slum now reached 962 and, after another death reported in the last 24 hours, its death roll reached 31.
