MVA Huddle After Rahul Gandhi's Comments & Sharad Pawar's 'Fadnavis Getting Impatient' Barb
Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadvanis accused the MVA partners of resorting to "cover fire" tactics to hide their own failures in tackling the the Covid-19 pandemic in the state by spreading rumours like that the BJP is trying to bring down the government, or BJP wants President rule in the state.
Maharashtra Politics: Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government is again appearing to be on slippery grounds with Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders again coming to the fore to make clarifications that the government is stable. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called a meeting with NCP and Congress leaders at his Varsha bungalow residence in Mumbai but reports say is chaired by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. Thackeray had met NCP chief Sharad Pawar yesterday.
Wednesday's all-partner meet comes after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stirred a fresh controversy by saying that his party was not a key player in decision making in the state. "We are supporting the government in Maharashtra but aren't a key player as in Punjab and Rajasthan. There is a difference between running and suporting a government."
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has refused to accept that it has reactivated Operation Lotus even as its big leaders have demanded President’s Rule in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and Congress MLA Nana Patole said as the state battles Coronavirus, there shouldn’t be any kind of politics being played.
'Fadnavis is getting impatient'
NCP chief Sharad Pawar has alleged that former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is getting impatient prompting the latter to clarify that the BJP wasn't trying to shake the government.
Fadnavis, however, warned that the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress alliance regime would "collapse" on its own, due to its internal squabbles.
"We are not interested in toppling the government. Hamara kaam bhagaana nahin hai, par jagaana hai," Fadnavis asserted.
Fadvanis accused the MVA partners of resorting to "cover fire" tactics to hide their own failures in tackling the the Covid-19 pandemic in the state by spreading rumours like that the BJP is trying to bring down the government, or BJP wants President rule in the state.
Pilloring the Uddhav government, Fadnavisu said the state lacks "assertive leadership" at this critical juncture.
On the MVA allies' charge that the BJP leaders keep rushing to meet Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari frequently, Fadnavis believed there's no harm in meeting him.
"The government functions under the name of the Governor. The Chief Minister and Cabinet play an advisory role, those who read the Constitution will be aware of this. It's my duty and my right to approach the Governor's office," he said.
