Last Rites Of Deceased CRPF Trooper To Be Performed In Kashmir
The CRPF trooper, who was admitted on June 4 and succumbed to Covid-19 infection, is the first death of a para-military trooper in Kashmir since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Srinagar: Amid the Covid-19 situation turning grim with rising casualties, the last rites of the deceased trooper in the Central Reserve Paramilitary Force (CRPF), who succumbed to Covid-19 will be performed in Kashmir following the guidelines of the home ministry, according to CRPF. “We are going to follow Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines, while dealing with the body of deceased CRPF man,” said Assistant Commandant and CRPF spokesman for (operations) in Kashmir, Junaid Khan said. The body of the deceased CRPF man will be cremated in Kashmir instead of sending the body to his native village, added the official.
Earlier in the day, the CRPF trooper died due to coronavirus infection in Kashmir Valley. He was admitted to the hospital on June 4, and on Monday morning he died of Covid-19 infection. It is the first death of a para-military trooper in Kashmir since the outbreak of the pandemic.
"The trooper was suffering from multiple ailments but Covid-19 is the main cause of his death," said Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Srinagar. He added that the trooper was posted in South Kashmir's Anantnag district.
The country has surpassed 2 lakh 50 thousand coronavirus cases making the situation grim even as the economic activity resumes after almost the nationwide lockdown.
Jammu and Kashmir has reported 42 deaths so far due to Coronavirus, among which 2 are non-locals including this trooper, 4 are from Jammu, and 36 from Kashmir. J&K has reported 4,087 cases so far.
Meanwhile, four terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Monday, police said. Three soldiers have also been injured in the encounter, according to the sources of the news agency PTI report.
