Kerala Rains: Red Alert Sounded In Idukki, Incessant Rainfall Throws Life Out Of Gear — Top Points

Incessant rains have thrown life out of gear in the state on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert in Idukki district and an orange alert to six districts. Educational institutes remain shut in 11 districts in view of rainfall.

The heavy downpour resulted in a spate of Kakkad river. As a result, water entered the residential areas of Kannur city. 

According to ANI, “Kakkad River overflows and enters residential areas in Kannur city due to heavy rainfall here. Makeshift barricading put up to discourage people from using the routes that are flooded.”

Some of the houses in Kottayam faced waterlogging on Thursday. “A few residential areas in Kottayam city face waterlogging following incessant rainfall here; Kodoor river nears overflow. IMD has issued a Yellow alert for the district today,” it said.

Some of the top points: 

  • The IMD said, Heavy rainfall (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to Very Heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur & Kasaragod on Thursday. 
  • On the other hand, IMD also said heavy rainfall (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad on Thursday.
  • The IMD issued a warning stating that  squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is likely to prevail over Kerala coast
  • The rainfall has also wreaked havoc in Thrissur, Alappuzha and Malappuram.

  • The state has also reported the death of a 50-year-old man after he slipped into a puddle near his house in Kannur. Another body of a man who fell into the water near Thottappaly in Alappuzha was recovered on Wednesday.
