Jharkhand Ropeway Accident: CM Hemant Soren Orders High Level Probe, Rescue Operation Resumes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, is constantly monitoring the situation as he discussed the rescue operations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on Monday, ordered a high level investigation into the ropeway mishap that happened in near Trikut in Deoghar district on Sunday which left two people dead after some cable cars on India’s highest vertical ropeway collided with each other.

“I express my deepest condolences on the incident on Trikut mountain and the deaths in it. There will be a high level inquiry into the matter,” the Chief Minister tweeted on Monday.

Soren further said that at least 15 people including children are still trapped in 4 cabins and the rescue operation to evacuate those people will be resumed today.

“I am constantly keeping an eye on the Trikut hills incident. At present, 14-15 people are trapped in about 4 trolleys, some of them small children. The entire team of Deoghar district administration, including the state's tourism minister, senior officials, are present on the spot. Garud Commandos, NDRF Team, ITBP & Indian Army personnel are working diligently to save the people. In the early morning, again with full enthusiasm, the work of bringing down trapped people safely will be started,” he tweeted further.

He requested families of the trapped people “to have patience” adding that “we will definitely take everyone out tomorrow.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, is constantly monitoring the situation as he discussed the rescue operations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, reported news agency ANI quoting sources from the government.

5 people have been rescued so far today and 10 people are still trapped mid-air at the time of writing this report, reported ABP News.

Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said that 32 people have been rescued so far while 15 people are still to be evacuated. “Rescue operation will resume early tomorrow morning,” he added.

The Indian Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have together constituted joint coordination with district admin for this rescue operation. The IAF deployed one Mi-17 and one Mi-17 V5 helicopter for carrying out the rescue operations.
