During the naka checking, jointly manned by Baramulla Police and 29 RR, two persons moving suspiciously were apprehended, police said. The arrested duo has been identified as Suhail Gulzar and Waseem Ahmad Pata of the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), officials said.
These arrests come just a few days after security forces arrested a militant associate of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday (May 27).
The officials had identified the militant as Mohammad Ashraf Mir, who was a resident of Laridoora Chandoosa, said a police spokesperson, as reported by PTI.
Security forces had information about movement of militants in Nagbal village in the north Kashmir district's Chandoosa area which prompted them to place a mobile vehicle checkpoint (MVCP) at the Shranz Crossing Nagbal.
Mir was coming from Shranz towards Nagbal and tried to flee after seeing security personnel, but was apprehended tactfully, said the police. Authorities said a grenade was seized from him and he was taken into custody immediately.
Officials had also confirmed that Mir was a surrendered terrorist and a case under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was registered against him.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (May 31), foiling an infiltration bid, Indian Army, in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), apprehended three to four terrorists on the Line of Control in the Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir, said the official release.
The terrorists were intercepted while trying to cross the fence, taking advantage of bad weather and heavy rains in the region.
The Indian army officials fired shots at them after monitoring their movement for about 13 hours and firing from the terrorists’ side. In retaliatory firefighting, some terrorists were also left hit and wounded.
