Jaipur-Mumbai Train Shooting: 2 Railway Cops Dismissed Over Failure To Discharge Duty, Says RPF

Two railway police constables have been sacked over failure to discharge duty in the Jaipur-Mumbai train shooting case where four people were gunned down by now sacked constable Chetan Singh.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has dismissed from service two constables, Amay Acharya and Narendra Parmar -- present on the Jaipur-Mumbai Express train when now-sacked Constable Chetan Singh allegedly gunned down a senior colleague and three passengers -- over their failure to discharge their duty. According to an RPF official, the constables were sacked for not performing their duty and failing to protect the passengers at the time of the incident. The constables allegedly ran for cover instead of intervening when the shoot-out happened, the official told news agency ANI.

The incident took place on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train when accused Chetan Singh (34) allegedly shot dead his senior - RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Tikaram Meena - and three passengers on the train near the Palghar station on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Singh was later held with his weapon while trying to flee after passengers pulled the chain of the train to stop it.

The incident reportedly happened when an altercation between the accused constable and his senior over the early release from the shift esclated, following which in a fit of rage, Chetan Singh gunned down his senior and three passengers. What caught the attention of people at the time was that the attack seemed to be targeted against a particular religion. A viral video showed the accused standing in a pool of blood with a slain passenger lying at his feet and making political remarks against Muslims. The incident sparked outrage across the country as people questioned the safety and security of railways.

Chaudhary was sacked from the Railway Protection Force after the incident and is in jail now. Meanwhile, his wife has denied the involvement of a communal angle in the case. She said, "The charges related to the communal angle are wrong," adding that "there was fear in his mind due to the incidents against the Hindus in the past.”
