'Why Is Amit Malviya Silent': TMC Launches Direct Attack On BJP, NCW Over BHU Gangrape Case

TMC Minister Shashi Panja asked why BJP's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya is not commenting anything regarding these allegations.

TMC Minister Shashi Panja on Tuesday lashed out at BJP over the alleged involvement of local party workers in the gang rape of a BHU student, questionning why the saffron party is keeping silence over this issue, news agency ANI reported. On the accused arrested in IIT-BHU gang rape case, Panja stated: "There was a cross allegation of rape against these three people who're all workers of BJP IT cell. What is BJP doing about this and why was the arrest so delayed?"

She further asked why BJP's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya is not commenting anything regarding these allegations. "Why is BJP's Amit Malviya who heads the IT wing, not saying anything and not taking any steps?...why is he not tweeting and condemning this incident? They have all gone so silent. When it comes to other political party leaders who are against BJP, Amit Malviya is quick to tweet against them...what happened to the double-engine govt? NCW chairperson has not reached BHU? ...we demand answers and reaction from Amit Malviya and BJP govt," she stated. 

Police detained three individuals on Sunday, two months after a lady student was reportedly gang-raped on the IIT-BHU campus. Opposition parties said they were BJP operatives.

According to PTI, the three suspects claimed to be members of the BJP's IT cell on their Facebook profile.

What Was The Case?

The gang rape occurred on November 1st night. Following the event, hundreds of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students protested on campus, demanding that outsiders be barred from entering.

The complainant stated that she had left her hostel with a buddy on November 1st. They were near the Karman Baba shrine when three guys on motorcycles arrived and violently pulled her to a corner, gagged her, and separated her from her buddy.

The accused then reportedly undressed the victim, filmed and photographed her. They let her leave after around 15 minutes and grabbed her phone number, according to the complaint.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and under provisions of the Information Technology Act at Lanka police station.
