Who Is Colonel Sophia Qureshi?

Colonel Sophia Qureshi is a trailblazer in the Indian Army, known for her determination, leadership, and dedication. She first made headlines when she became the only woman to command a multinational army contingent during Exercise Force-18, a military drill involving 18 countries. Representing India, she led a team of 40 soldiers — an unprecedented achievement for any female officer at the time.

Sofia Qureshi's Rise

Originally from Gujarat, Colonel Qureshi holds a post-graduate degree in Biochemistry, reflecting a unique blend of academic excellence and military expertise. She serves in the Army's Signals Corps, which handles communications and information systems.

Her contributions extend beyond national borders. In 2006, she was deployed to Congo as part of the UN Peacekeeping Mission. For over six years, she has played a pivotal role in global peace efforts. She was also selected by the Peacekeeping Training Group, renowned for preparing personnel for international missions.

Colonel Qureshi's connection to the armed forces runs deep — her grandfather served in the military, and her husband is an officer in the Mechanised Infantry.
