TET Candidates Protest Against Government In Bengal Over Recruitment

Candidates who have cleared the TET exam in 2014 are protesting against the state government in West Bengal, seeking recruitment.

The applicants who cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) administered by the West Bengali government in 2014 protested against the state government for not being appointed. For the past two days, hundreds of applicants, who are awaiting appointments, have staged massive demonstrations in Salt Lake.

The protest took place at the West Bengal Board of Primary Education's headquarters in Salt Lake City. Candidates who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in 2014 staged a sit-in protest, demanding recruitment letters.

After passing the written TET 2014 exam, the protesters said that they attended two interviews, but they were unsuccessful in getting the position, which the board claimed had already expired. The applicants who are protesting claim they do not want to take the new exam the government has scheduled for this year. Instead, they seek to be recruited as teachers in West Bengal government-sponsored and -aided schools according to the old merit list.

After first obstructing traffic at the major Karunamayi crossing during the day, the protestors gheraoed the Board of Primary Education's headquarters.

Government should take responsibility for corruption and irregularities: BJP

Corruption and irregularities should be the duty of the government. Priyanka Tibrewal, state secretary for the BJP, claimed that the administration is a total failure. The TET 2014 graduates were not granted employment. They are being prompted to retake the exam by the government. Some students are no longer able to do so since the age restriction has been reached.
