'90% Vote Share': Mamata, Suvendu Affirmative On Mega Win From High-Profile Nandigram Constituency

Intense clashes were reported in the high-profile Nandigram constituency, where chief minister Mamata Banerjee is locked in a high-stakes electoral battle with her protege-turned-bete noire Suvendu Adhikari.

West Bengal Elections, Phase 2 Voting: The second phase of voting in West Bengal Assembly elections witnessed sporadic violence with both Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blaming each other for the ferocity which took place in various constituencies of the state. Intense clashes were reported in the high-profile Nandigram constituency, where chief minister Mamata Banerjee is locked in a high-stakes electoral battle with her protege-turned-bete noire Suvendu Adhikari, now with the BJP.

An agitated TMC supremo even went on to slam the Election Commission for not taking any action despite lodging several complaints and threatened to move court over it. Amongst the complaints were allegations of "booth capturing" and massive fake voting in Nandigram's Boyal village.

TMC claimed that it registered as many as 63 complaints to the polling body, but not a single action was taken. Sitting outside booth number 7 in Boyal, Mamata Banerjee threatened to move court as her partymen alleged many voters were unable to cast their ballot.

Later on entire Nandigram was placed under Section 144 of the CrPC.

However, what was interesting was the fact that despite clashes and violence, voters in West Bengal came out in heavy number to exercise their franchise with EC recording around 80 per cent turnout till 6 pm across the state.

90% Voter Share Claim By Mamata Banerjee

After sharpening her attack on the Election Commission, Banerjee claimed that she will get 90 per cent vote in Nandigram.

Whatever you (Election Commission) try, BJP will not win. In Nandigram, 90% of the votes will go to TMC,” Banerjee said earlier in the day while speaking to reporters. She also alleged that people from other states are creating ruckus in Nandigram aading that she has lodged 63 poll-related complaints since morning, but no action has been taken by the Election Commission.

90% Voter Share Claim By Suvendu Adhikari

Following the suit, even Suvendu Adhikari claimed to have secured as many as 90 per cent vote share in high-profile seat of Nandigram.

While speaking to news agency ANI, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said that 90 per cent of the votes have gone to the saffron party in Nandigram. Earlier in the day, Adhikari also claimed that Mamata Banerjee will lose from Nandigram seat.

"I have a very old relationship with the people of the area. I have a personal relationship with almost every person in Nandigram. Pretty confident that I will win the election," Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP told reporters on Thursday morning.

Despite tight security in 30 assembly segments of West Bengal spread across Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts, Bankura and South 24 Parganas, rivals TMC and BJP supporters fought pitched battles in several places in the four districts.

According to EC, Bankura recorded the highest turnout at 82.92 per cent, followed by Purba Medinipur at 81.23, South 24 Parganas at 79:65 per cent, Paschim Medinipur at 78 per cent.
