West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee To Meet PM Modi & President Murmu In Delhi Today

During her four-day visit to the national capital, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, as well as attend a Niti Aayog meeting on August 7, sources familiar with the matter said, news agency PTI reported.

Banerjee will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to address various issues, including the state's GST dues. 

According to sources, Banerjee met with her Trinamool Congress MPs and reviewed the current session of Parliament as well as the route to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

She also asked for recommendations for the names of the seven new districts in West Bengal that she just declared, they claimed.

According to sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will attend a Niti Aayog meeting on August 7, as well as a meeting with Opposition leaders.

Banerjee may also see Sonia Gandhi, who is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate for money laundering.

"We met (Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj) Giriraj Singh and he had promised to resolve the MGNREGA issue within 48 hrs. It has been over a month and all I received is a dour-page answer which I have given to Mamata Banerjee," Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay was quoted by PTI in its report. 

With former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee facing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate in the state's cash-for-jobs scam, insiders say Banerjee is unlikely to face the media.

On August 7, Prime Minister Modi will preside over a meeting of the Niti Aayog governing council, during which agriculture, health, and the economy will be discussed. The council holds frequent meetings. It conducted its inaugural meeting on February 8, 2015.

Banerjee had skipped the council meeting last year. She is anticipated to express concerns about non-payment of GST dues and issues of federalism during this year's summit.
