West Bengal: BJP leader arrested with Rs 33 lakh in new currency notes

KOLKATA: A BJP leader was arrested along with six alleged coal mafia for allegedly trying to exchange old currency notes here on Tuesday, police said.. Police arrested Manish Sharma from Ranigunj in Burdwan district with 33 lakh rupees in new Rs 2000 denomination currency notes. Manish Sharma, a BJP leader and party candidate form Ranigunj in West Bengal's Burdwan district in the assemly polls earlier this year, was nabbed from Baguihati, while trying to exchange old currency notes in bulk, IANS quoted a senior officer of Kolkata police's Special Task Force as saying. All of them were arrested from an apartment in Baguihati in the northern fringes of the city. Police suspects they had brought huge amount of demonetised currency notes to Kolkata and had converted black money into white.
