Weather Update: Will Delhi-NCR Witness Rain Today? Know Which States Are Likely To Receive Showers

The NCR region has already been witnessing incessant rainfalls in the past few days. Know the weather department's forecast for today.

New Delhi: The weather department has predicted rain in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharasthra, Arunachal Pradesh, and other regions on Monday while Delhi is not likely to witness rain hereafter. Schools for all children up to class 12 will remain shut on Monday in parts of Uttar Pradesh as per the orders of the district administrations following a heavy rainfall warning by the weather department, reported news agency ANI.

Heavy rainfall caused waterlogging, flood water entering houses and shops of people; and also into the wards of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, vehicular movement is affected. Parts of Noida witnessed severe waterlogging as incessant rainfall heavy rainfall lashed Delhi and NCR on Sunday. The region has already been witnessing incessant rainfalls in the past few days.

 Heavy rains lashed several parts of NCR on Sunday leaving at least nine dead, according to the news agency PTI.

Uttar Pradesh

The notification by the Ghaziabad administration stated that the schools running under CBSE, ICSE, Madarsa Education Board, and Sanskrit Schools will remain shut on Monday and will reopen on Tuesday. According to the India Meteorological Department, rain and thundershower are likely at many places over the state on Monday.

“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning is very likely at isolated places over the state from October 9 to 12. Heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over the state on October 10,” said the IMD.

Delhi

After incessant rain for the last two days, Delhi may not receive any rain from Monday onwards. Senior Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) RK Jenamani on Sunday told news agency ANI that there would be no rain in the national capital and its surrounding areas from October 10 onwards.

“Highest rainfall was recorded at our station in Mayur Vihar on Saturday. From tomorrow onwards there will be no rain in Delhi-NCR,” said Jenamani. The national capital recorded heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday (October 8 and 9).

The reported rains in Delhi amounted to 74.3mm, 87.2mm, and 85.2mm at the SFD, Lodhi Road, and Ayaynagar respectively. Also, Delhi ridge and Palam had reported 60 and 64mm respectively.

The IMD said that the national capital would not receive significant rainfall from October 10 onwards, however, drizzling or light rain might happen.

Andhra Pradesh

A weather advisory for Amaravati city in Andhra Pradesh has been issued by the India Metrological Department (IMD). For the next five days, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain.

For the next two days, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain in isolated locations in the Rayalaseema region as well as in NCAP and Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema.

Jenamani said, "As per the latest analysis, rainfall activity is occurring over north India due to interaction between western disturbance which is at the middle and upper troposphere and at the lower level there is a because its cyclonic circulation over the Gujarat region and from there the moisture because the wind is coming towards the Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR region and East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh.

Maharashtra 

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and over Konkan, for the next three days.

Nitha TS, Scientist-C at IMD Mumbai said that there are expectations of thundershowers, associated with isolated heavy rainfall for almost the entire Maharashtra.

Other States

Heavy rainfall spell likely to continue over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya  Pradesh, and East Rajasthan on Monday.  Heavy rainfall spell over Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema during the next four days and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Monday.

Moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from 9th-13th; Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and Telangana on 12th, 13th; North Interior Karnataka on 11th; South Interior Karnataka during 9th -11th and over Kerala on Monday.

Moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms/lightning is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya from 09th-12th and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from October 9  to 11.

Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from 09th -12th and over Bihar on October 11 and 12. Isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday.
