Haryana: 6 Children Dead After Falling In Rainwater-Filled Pond In Gurugram, Probe On, Says Report

Durgesh, Ajit, Rahul, Piyush, Deva, and Varun, all residents of Shankar Vihar Colony, went to take a bath in the pond this afternoon and drowned, police stated.

Six children drowned in a pond in Gurugram, Haryana, after it became flooded due to heavy rains on Sunday, police stated, news agency ANI reported.

According to police, Durgesh, Ajit, Rahul, Piyush, Deva, and Varun, all residents of Shankar Vihar Colony, went to take a bath in the pond this afternoon and drowned, news agency PTI reported.

Nishant Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, stated that all of the children were between the ages of 8 and 13. He urged people to notify him if any other children went missing. The pond will be combed again if necessary, according to the official.

According to the DC, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a Rs 2 lakh compensation for each of the deceased's families, PTI reported.

“This is a very unfortunate incident. We will identify such temporary ponds and drain their water so that such an accident does not happen in future," news agency PTI quoted Yadav as saying.

After receiving the information, teams of police, State Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence, National Disaster Response Force, and fire department personnel rushed to the scene. After a four-hour operation, the bodies were fished out of the pond.

The bodies have been transported to a civil hospital, and a post-mortem examination will take place on Monday, PTI reported.

Deepak Saharan, DCP West, stated that police found the clothes of six children in the pond, ANI reported.

For the past 3-4 days, Delhi-NCR has been inundated with rain. The interactions of a western disturbance in the mid and upper air with a deep trough of easterly wind at a lower level are the cause of post-monsoon rain, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

However, RK Jenamani, Senior Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), stated that there would be no rain in Delhi-NCR starting tomorrow, ANI reported.
