Weather Update: Cold Wave Condition To Continue In North, Rainfall Predicted In Most Regions

Dense or very dense Fog in isolated pockets in night/morning hours very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh during next four-five days; north Rajasthan during next three days

New Delhi: The temperature in the national capital and adjoining regions may witness a significant drop as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted rain and dense fog in the northern regions on Wednesday.

Dense/very dense Fog in isolated pockets in night/morning hours very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh during next four-five days; north Rajasthan during next three days, according to the weather department.

The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal, while the air quality was in the 'poor' category on Tuesday, according to officials quoted by PTI report.  “It was the first time in this season when the dense fog was observed for such a long duration. The fog spell will continue for one to two days,” said RK Jenamani, senior scientist at IMD, according to a Hindustan Times report.

The weather department also predicted rains in several regions across the country. Light to moderate intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra (Haryana) Saharanpur, Gangoh, Khatauli (U.P.) during the next two hours.

Isolated thunderstorms with lightning/Hail very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim & Telangana on 12th and over Odisha on 11th & 13th January 2022, the weather department has predicted.

It has also warned of enhanced rainfall, thunderstorms activity over east and adjoining central India till January 14. "The confluence of winds from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels is very likely over the east and adjoining central India during next 4-5 days. Under the influence of above systems, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Western Himalayan Region till Tuesday and there would be dry weather for subsequent 3-4 days," the IMD had said in its bulletin.

It also predicted isolated thunderstorms with lightning/hail very over Telangana on 12th and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Telangana on 13th January.</p

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Kerala are expected to receive light rainfall during the next 4-5 days.

The IMD has also forecasted scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during January 11-13 and isolated to scattered rainfall very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on January 12 & 13.

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality deteriorates to 'moderate' from the 'satisfactory' category, with the city recording an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 193, according to SAFAR-India.
