‘We Also Aspire To Work’: Transgender Community Attends ‘Job Mela’ In Hyderabad

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said almost 100 companies have come in this ‘Job Mela’ and announced over 600 vacancies.

New Delhi: The transgender job aspirants took part in a ‘Job Mela’ organized by the city police in Telangana, Hyderabad, on Saturday.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said almost 100 companies have come in this ‘Job Mela’ and announced over 600 vacancies.

“This platform enables the job seekers and employers to connect,” the Police Commissioner added, ANI reported.

Madhushalini, one of the job aspirants, expressed her gratitude to the police.

“I came to the ‘Job Mela’ with my community members. We are grateful to the police,” Madhushalini told the news agency.

“The people often think that transgender either beg or indulge in sex work, but it is not like that. We also aspire to work and are proud to get a job,” she added.

Earlier this month, Telangana Social Welfare Minister K. Eshwar had assured the state government will extend necessary help for the transgender community and resolve their issues.

Eshwar, who interacted with the members of the transgender community in Hyderabad, assured that he would bring the problems being faced by them to the notice of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and resolve them at the earliest.

Advising the members of the transgender community to look for employment opportunities instead of seeking alms, the Social Welfare Minister said self-employment training programmes will be organized soon if necessary.

Eshwar also laid emphasis on the need for setting up of ‘ashrams’ to give shelter to the transgender community.

He said a draft proposal to ensure the transgender community’s safety and security will soon be prepared and submitted to the state government.
