WATCH: SDRF Team Rescues Trekking Group Stranded In Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi

The SDRF squad covered a distance of 24 kilometers in order to locate the group, provide assistance, and transport them securely to Gangotri.

In Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, a group of seven trekkers who were stranded due to harsh weather conditions were successfully rescued by the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) today, news agency ANI reported.

The group found themselves stuck in Uttarkashi during their journey from Gangotri to Tapovan.

The SDRF squad covered a distance of 24 kilometers in order to locate the group, provide assistance, and transport them securely to Gangotri.

Apart from this, SDRF team rescued 40 Adi Kailash Yatra pilgrims who were stranded in a landslide in Pithoragarh. They were safely taken to Dharchula.

Earlier, the Uttarakhand State Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for June 1, following continuous rainfall in Uttarkashi since last week, officials said, PTI reported.

The police also had issued an advisory and urged all the pilgrims to stay in safe places owing to bad weather conditions. "Pilgrims please stay at safe places, do not travel unnecessarily, and park vehicles at safe places, landslides/geo. Travel only when the weather is clear," the police was quoted by PTI in its report. 

"All the devotees coming for Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham Yatra are requested to plan their journey after taking the weather forecast, keep rain cover, umbrella and woolen/warm clothes with them during the journey," the police further stated.

On Monday, the IMD had also issued an orange warning for Uttarakhand, forecasting precipitation and hail in the elevated areas of the region and rain accompanied by thunder in the low-lying planes.
