'Want To Stand By Truth': Aviation Minister In Rajya Sabha On Ahmedabad Plane Crash

The Aviation Minister said he has seen multiple articles not only by the Indian media but also by the Western media trying to promote their own viewpoint.

Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, speaking in Rajya Sabha on the Ahmedabad plane crash, said the government wants to stand by the truth as AAIB is carrying out the investigation in a transparent manner.

"I have seen multiple articles not only by the Indian media but also by the Western media trying to promote their own viewpoint. The way we are seeing the investigation is through facts. We want to stand by the truth. And that will only be revealed when the investigation is complete," he said.

The minister said for the first time, the decoding of a Black Box was carried out in India in connection with the probe into the Air India AI-171 crash.

“Earlier, even minor damage meant the Black Box was sent abroad. This is the first time decoding happened within India,” Naidu said, commending the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) for its unbiased, rule-based investigation.

He also addressed a query on manpower shortage in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), stating that 103 posts were filled last year, the highest recruitment ever. On Sunday, Naidu had cautioned against premature conclusions, urging all parties to await the final investigation report by the AAIB. The Air India London-bound flight AI-171 crashed on June 12, claiming 260 lives.
