UP: Minor gangrape victim commits suicide by setting herself on fire
Fearing social stigma, the girl set herself on fire. Police have arrested the two accused.
New Delhi: A 15-year-old victim of gangrape committed suicide on Monday in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district.
The minor girl was gang-raped by two men in the neighbourhood on Friday, after which the girl escaped to a railway line, where she was found by police. The police then escorted her home.
However, fearing social stigma, the minor girl committed suicide by self-immolation using kerosene oil. Before dying, the girl took the names of the two perpetrators of the crime against her. Both the accused have been nabbed by the police.
The girl was taken to district’s Deen Dayal Hopsital by her father in a critical condition with 95% burns. As her condition worsened she was shifted to medical college, where she died during treatment.
As per the locals, when the girl had gone to toilet, the accused named Sonu and Lalit grabbed her and took turns to rape her.
SSP Ajay Kumar Sahni said that both the accused have been nabbed and police is also probing the suicide angle.
