ADM Hem Kumar Singh reportedly put-up notices outside liquor outlets in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district which read "Liquor will be sold only to those who are vaccinated".

The official appealed to the contractors not to sell liquor to anyone without a vaccine certificate. He directed to outlets to display notices outside their shops and not to sell alcohol to anyone who is yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

An official order mandating vaccine certificates for the purchase of liquor is awaited. As of now, the move is being seen as an act taken individually by Singh while there is no such order as yet to stop the sale of liquor to those who are yet to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

The administration has been cautious due to the Aligarh hooch tragedy where at least 25 people died after consuming spurious liquor earlier this month. Many are still in the hospital for treatment.

Aligarh police have arrested six accused in this regard. Meanwhile, compensation of Rs 5 Lakhs has been announced for the families of deceased.
